Personal Growth: How to be a better you –

I cringe when I hear people say they are too old for change and that people need to accept them for what they are. I have made plenty of mistakes in my life and feel that I can always be a better person. There is always room for improvement.

When people talk, LISTEN. Sometimes we find ourselves waiting for our turn to talk and tend to tune out the other person in our anticipation. It is important to be there for someone else.
Let go of grudges. Holding onto hate and anger takes too much energy. You can’t truly be free.
When you make a mistake, own up to it. This doesn’t make you any less of a person. In fact, by accepting responsibility for your actions, you add a lot to your character.
Say you are sorry if you snap on someone. We all have bad days but it doesn’t give you the right to treat others any way you like. Unless you are perfect, sorry is a good word to have in your vocabulary.
Sometimes to grow, you need to step outside of your comfort zone and try something that you never have before. Open up your world to new opportunities.
If you are a complainer, try and focus on the positive side of things. I always think that things could be so much worse.
This is a big one for me. Lower your expectations. If you have no expectations, then you will always be happy. If you set the bar too high, it becomes impossible to meet your standards and nothing is good enough.
Like Tim McGraw says, be humble and kind. There is no need to brag to make someone else feel bad. It is totally fine to share your excitement with someone, but you don’t have to pat your own back. Let someone else do it for you. If you are kind to others, they will treat you the same. If they don’t, then they don’t deserve to be your friend. Get rid of them.
Surround yourself with the type of people who exhibit the behavior that you admire. If you surround yourself with toxic people, it will suck the life out of you.
If bad things keep happening to you then change it. Don’t keep saying that you have a black cloud and accept your life the way it is. It is your life and you are in control.
